EPL publishes Letters, Comments and Replies and Perspectives on any contemporary research topic in physics, including theory, experiment and computation.
EPL organises its articles into the following sections:
All articles are subject to a strict length limit and go through a peer review process before publication.
Letters submitted to EPL should contain new results, ideas, concepts, experimental methods, theoretical treatments, including those with application potential and be of broad current interest and importance to one or several sections of the physics community. The presentation should satisfy the specialist that the content is scientifically sound, yet remain understandable to the researchers in other fields through a suitable, clearly written introduction and conclusion.
EPL does not accept review articles, historical surveys or conference proceedings for consideration as Letters.
EPL also publishes Comments on Letters previously published in the Journal, and Replies from the authors to these comments. Comments are subject to the same general interest, importance and scientific soundness criteria as letters. They must add significant value to a scientific point centrally related to the Letter being criticised. Comments cannot be used as a vehicle to write a paper simply by extending somebody else’s work, as a substitute for addenda and errata, or to claim priority. Authors cannot Comment on their own work, but do have a right of reply to Comments. Authors of a Comment are encouraged to send it to the authors of the paper criticised before submission.
Perspectives are invited articles that provide a brief, accessible point-of-view on research at the frontiers of physics. Perspectives need not contain new results, but should provide a fresh look at current research. Specific guidance on Perspectives is provided to authors and reviewers. EPL does not accept unsolicited Perspectives.
